GENERAL INFORMATION
· Commune Pelinei, district Cahul.
· Two villages, village Pelinei and village Sãtuc are part of the commune Pelinei: Commune Pelinei boarders village Lebedenco and village Ursoaia in the North; village Gãvãnoasa and village Sãtuc in the South; v. Alexandrfeld in the South-East; v. Manta and Crihana Veche in the South-West; and v. Moscovei in the East. Pelinei has a population of 2634 inhabitants among whom: 1319 women, 1315 men; 626 children; 377 pensioners; 388 youth (of the age from 18 to 35), 1487 inhabitants are engaged.
The ethnic composition of the village is the following: 2408 Moldovans, 3 Rusians, 26 Ukrainians, 197 of other minorities.
· History of the village: There exist many opinions about the date of the foundation of the village Pelinei: the year 1710, the year 1737 and earliest July 25, 1708. According to the documents found in the Archives the first land-owner in the valley of the river Cahul was Luca Toma, who later sells part of his lands to Matei Cantacuzino. In the year 1792 his estate is sold to the treasurer Iordache Bals. At the beginning of the XX century the boyar Stefan Burt had approximately 4000 hectares of land. In the year1879 for the first time in the village Pelinei, a ministerial school was opened. The first religious institution in the commune is dated in 1808, was built of wood and was named „Acoperemantul Maicii Domnului”. In 1914 the church was build of bricks with the help of the landowner, Ana Burt. According to the census of 1923, there were 325 households in the commune. In August 1949, two collective farms are organized in Pelinei: the collective farm „Suvorov” (director Martanov Pavel) and the collective farm „Maxim Gorchi” (director Loghin Ion).
We can say the following about the economy of the village up to 1999: village Pelinei was a component part of the Village Soviet Lebedenco and the agricultural lands belonged to the collective farm „
In 1981-1997 the State Agricultural Farm (SAF) „Pelinei” is registered and becomes the only agricultural land owner in the village, possessing 2841 hectares of agricultural land and 1834 ha of arable land.
The sphere of activity of SAF „Pelinei” is the production and selling of agricultural products. The main branches are viticulture and cereals growing. Cattle breeding was an insignificant and unprofitable branch. The main sources of income in the farm came from the selling of grapes to the wine-making plant from Cahul and of the grains to the elevator from the town Vulcãnesti. The agricultural production was not processed in the village. It was sold to the state and to workers.
The total surface is 3818 ha.

There are no irrigated lands.

The cultural activity in the village Pelinei starts with the putting into operation of the
Three documentaries have been made about the activity of the ensemble „Dorulet” and about the Popular Craftsmen in Applicative Art, Toma Acris:
- in 1979 the documentary „Sãrbãtoarea sufletului” (“Holiday for the Soul”) is shot; film director Dumitru Fusu;
- in 1986 the documentary „Art” is shot; director - Bolboceanu;
- in 1989 the documentary „De la lume adunate” (Gathered from People) is shot; film director Veaceslav Sereda.
